Bioplastics, An Overview
Bioplastics cover a wide range of materials, including plastics produced entirely from renewable resources, plastics produced in part from renewable resources, biodegradable plastics produced from petrochemical feedstocks, and plastics for medical applications. The market growth for these plastics is driven by many factors, such as environmental concerns, issues related to dependence on foreign oil, and social considerations. These new plastics have many advantages such as being sustainable and biodegradable; however, there is a need to improve thermal and mechanical properties to expand their use in a broader range of applications. In addition, there is a need to increase the knowledge of these materials. This workshop will review these topics in detail and allow attendees to make better use of these novel materials.
